**Job Summary:**

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (Europe), with a functional reporting line to the Chief Safety Officer, the Europe SH&E Director will partner with regional leadership to enable the design, implementation, communication and coordination of all SH&E initiatives within the new Europe Region. This will involve supporting all corporate offices and projects (site and office) across the Region, aligning the new SH&E organisation for the new Europe region to ensure adequate coverage across all operating jurisdictions and establishing, managing and monitoring compliance with company and local safety regulations across AECOM operations. The role will also be a representative on the Global Safety Leadership Team (GSLT) and involved in the setting of the SH&E strategy and associated initiatives for the global organisation.

**Role Responsibilities:**

+ Initially this role will be focused on the integration of the legacy UK & Ireland and Continental Europe Regions, including establishing a new team structure to ensure adequate coverage for various operations within the new Europe Region and to clearly define roles and responsibilities for key team members.

+ Ensure that during current COVID pandemic that all offices have an approved Workplace Readiness plan in place; work with local leadership to ensure that adequate measures are in place to reduce exposure to harm and provide assistance to employees who may be diagnosed as positive, or require self-quarantine after close contact.

+ Work with local leadership to ensure remote working risks are identified and addressed e.g. ergonomic, with consideration of addressing evolving risk associated with mental health.

+ Act as the Europe representative on all GSLT meetings, funnelling global SH&E initiatives to wider Europe SH&E team.

+ Establish regular meetings with Europe SH&E staff, ensuring a consistent approach is cascaded down throughout operating countries and business lines/end markets. Ensure consideration is given on how to reach project level SH&E staff so they are integrated and aware of the various systems, tools and lessons learned available from wider AECOM.

+ Work with Regional leadership to set consistent annual performance targets for the Core Value SH&E Metrics, including development of a suitable core training program taking into consideration various client and regulatory requirements and where needed implement initiatives and training to ensure targets are met.

+ Establish programs to manage Europe data quality associated with monthly reporting e.g. MBR, ensure data is received on-time for upload into global portals and that any deficiencies are corrected. This includes management of IndustrySafe and Lifeguard systems for quality control and timely closure of incidents, observations and associated corrective actions.

+ Seek to establish appropriate forums to regularly engage with senior leadership on SH&E e.g. Safety Leadership Team (SLT), partnering with Operational leadership on preparation of material for associated meetings, including establishing (where relevant) annual personal KPIs for Europe Leaders/SLT. This should focus not only on performance metrics, but also on leadership culture, helping to develop programs to upskill leaders to drive better commitment, collaboration and importantly accountability for SH&E across the Region.

+ Ensure serious incidents are escalated to both Regional and Functional leadership (under the direction of legal counsel) in a timely manner, and that investigations are performed for any high potential events, assisting to facilitate an executive incident review where required. Ensure that relevant safety alerts or lessons learned are shared across the Europe region and with other global colleagues to assist in preventing future incidents.

+ Ensure alignment with the Regional Risk Committee(s) so that appropriate SH&E resources are identified, SH&E risks are mitigated, and appropriate controls are implemented.

+ Establish a local audit and inspection schedule to maintain visibility for SH&E program across various offices and project operations, ensuring associated corrective actions are assigned to appropriate parties and closed in a timely manner.

+ Work with the Regional BL leads and CAM/SAMs to understand their resourcing needs and ensure adequate resources are available to assist with key Europe pursuits, working to ensure they understand AECOM’s SH&E systems, capabilities and work with preferred suppliers/HR to source local talent to ensure key hires are prioritised.

+ Assist with the recruitment of new Europe SH&E staff. Actively involved in setting annual goals and mid-year/end-of-year reviews, for all direct and dotted line reports.

+ Align with Europe Functional Leads e.g. HR, Comms on local initiatives, integrating SH&E wherever possible.

**Minimum Requirements**

+ Minimum 10 years’ experience, with at least the last 2-3 years spent in a safety leadership position.

+ Bachelor’s degree in related field e.g. OH&S, Science etc.

+ Experience working in a variety of technical areas including management and design engineering and/or building engineering industries with a multi-national, multi-disciplined firm is highly desirable.

+ Experience directly managing a team, including hiring of new talent, managing a high performing team and establishing and monitoring goals and annual performance and rewards.

+ Communication and training skills and experience are critical.

+ Professional Membership with related safety organisation (desired).
