Mid-Level Web / PHP Developer

Melbourne, VIC – Schwartz Media is seeking a passionate, sharp mid-level web developer to join our team in Carlton, Melbourne. Schwartz Media is a publisher of quality, independent journalism. The role is full-time and the successful applicant will have an essential role in developing and maintaining the software behind Australia’s leading independent media company. This is a great opportunity to expand your career as a software engineer working with quality media brands. You will develop and learn the ins and outs of hosting large, scalable Drupal sites, as well building beautiful front-end experiences for our subscribers. You’ll learn how to develop the necessary infrastructure for a subscription-based company delivering important content to a passionate readership. You will be supported by our team, and be given the ability to expand your knowledge of PHP, JS, React.js, Node.js, Git, Docker, HTML, CSS, responsive design and more. You will also have a role in helping solve technical issues that arise in the process of publishing magazines and newspapers. YOU WILL HAVE: Demonstrated experience with PHP, JS, HTML/CSS, relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB), CMSs, APIs, HTML and Git Experience with Drupal, or a similar PHP backed CMS Experience or interest in Amazon Web Services and payment processors, such as Stripe An interest in subscription management and login/auth systems, using CiviCRM or similar software An ability to write performant and secure code Interest in CI/CD infrastructure, such as Docker, Kubernetes and GitLab Fluency in OS X or Linux Diligence and an eye for detail The ability to develop solutions and learn independently, as well as within a team An interest in Australian current affairs and politics.
